Bird Bath

Bird BathCreation: Bird Bath
Medium: Concrete, colored stones and stainless steel
Year: 2012

Artist Statement: Inspired by the early Mayans and being exposed to the construction industry for about 30 years now, I’ve often admired the finished results of cast-in-place concrete. I constructed this Bird Bath with a wooden form that allowed me to pour concrete in a square bowl about 4 feet square and 8″ deep, with a sloped bottom (for drainage) and a drain faucet. In the face of the form, I temporarily attached “bling” (colored stones and stainless strips) so that when the forms were stripped, the bling is embedded in the face of the lightly tinted concrete.
